The Sami national day celebrated in Sundsvall was a good oppertunity to visit Café Gullgården on Norra Berget. The cafè that is running for some years is going to be closed in August this year since it is not making enough money to cover the costs. To be more exact it needs to earn at least twice as much as it earns today to continue operating.

Café Gullgården is not the only cafè on the mountain, there is also Restaurang Grankotten but Café Gullgården is open every day all year long. More than that, it providing jobs to 2 ladies that makes excellent traditional Swedish.

On a cup of coffee they explained the meaning of Café Gullgården to Norra Berget. It is not just a coffee shop that people are coming to after a walk in the park. The cafè is one of the main attractions of Norra Berget especially on Midsommar what it is so full of clients that they had to serve to those who were waiting in the line outside the cafè.

Now they hope that the kommun will reverse its decision as to the coming elections on September will come closer. The decision might affect not only Socialdemokraterna but also Moderaterna. However those that would really be affected are probably all people living in Sundsvall. Without a cafè that is serving every day year round the kommun is litterally drying Norra Berget as a tourist attraction.

So if you happens to be on Norra Berget between 11:00-16:00 go inside Café Gullgården for once in a lifetime kaffebröd.
