This is what we here for

One month in the making… Sundsvall Express is one month old.

This week I had an interview on P4 (Sverige Radio) program Efter Tre. The idea of a news website is somewhat strange to the common Sundsvall resident. Anyone that I meet around here asks me why did I come to Sundsvall, like as if it was the last place in Sweden I should live at. So starting a news website in Sundsvall and on top of that the website is in English, sounds a little very strange. But it is not. Not at all.

Thousands of English speaking residents in Sundsvall, rather they are permanently living here or just came to study at MIUN, need a source of information in English written by non Swedish. Problems and misunderstandings that we experience every day are unthinkable for those who were born here. Having a month long vacation every summer is naturligvis for every Swede but not for us.

When the program’s host asked me before the program started where the idea of the website came from I told her about that summer vacation misunderstanding that I personally had and other cases that made me believe even more that despite the fact that Sundsvall is might not the biggest attraction in Sweden (I have no idea why would anyone think that), Sundsvall needs a news source in English. And now when Sundsvall is aiming to be the capital city of the north the importance of Sundsvall Express is even higher.
